"God made all the creatures, and gave them our love and our fear, To give sign we and they are his children, one family here."

- Robert Browning. 1812-1890 -

I am a self employed artist working from home. My greatest loves are animals (pets and wild creatures), the environment, and painting animals in oils or watercolour, although I also very much enjoy painting, landscapes, flowers, people and buildings. I feel so lucky being able to combine the two great loves in my life - pet dogs, cats, indeed all pets, and wild animals, with my love of painting pet portraits and landscape paintings.

Having many pets of my own I know just how precious they are to us and what a special gift a portrait of a beloved pet is. Even more so when our pet has sadly died. Many of my commissions are memorials to much loved pets and they are a lasting tribute to a lost friend.

I love my pet portrait work, but one of the saddest aspects is where an old pet has died and the owner has no clear photo to remember their friend by, or, indeed, to create a pet portrait memorial to their lost one. So take those pictures now, even if you do not yet decide on a painting of your pet.

The happiest aspect of my work is when my client has received their pet portrait and telephone or write to let me know how delighted they are in spite of the tears over their lost friend. Dog paintings, cat paintings and animal paintings make such special and lasting gifts and such loving memorials to lost friends.

I know how it feels to lose a beloved pet. Over the last 30 years I have lost some good pet friends and each loss is as acute as the last. All our pets are unique little characters who cannot be replaced. We can, however, hold their memories in our hearts.  We find that once again we can open the photo albums and recall the happy times with our pets. Over the years in which I have been painting pets professionally I have found pet portraits can bring great comfort to those who have lost their dogs, cats, or other pets.

I have so many lovely letters from my clients telling me how the portrait of their pet is now taking pride of place in their home, and how they feel their pet's spirit is still with them whenever they gaze at the painting. I think this is the loveliest part of my work, although inevitably tinged with sadness.

Order your Pet Dog, Cat & Animals Portraits now. Remember I need about 4 weeks to complete your pet painting

Pet Dog, Cat & Animal Portraits by Isabel Clark are Very Special Paintings

So order your dog painting, cat painting or animal painting now for that lasting tribute. Whether it is a dog painting, cat painting, animal painting, landscape painting or greeting cards, when they are created from photos of your beloved pets you will have unique and loving mementos of your special friend. All my pet portraits and landscape paintings are executed in oils on canvas or watercolours. I paint all pets and all pets are welcome, whether they be rabbits, mice, guinea-pigs, hamsters, horses, ponies, dogs, cats or birds of all kinds.

Many times I am asked to paint scenes, cottages, farmhouses, railway signal boxes and people's own homes.  Whatever scene you have in mind, all I need is that crucial CLEAR photo and you will have a special and lasting gift.

Whether it is a pet portrait or painting of your own home you have in mind, don't leave it too late.  I need about 4 weeks to complete your painting so order as soon as possible.

I can also create greeting , Christmas, birthday and anniversary cards from your pet dogs, cats, animals, your home, children etc; from your CLEAR photos. Details can be seen on the Greeting Card Page.

So, if you have no CLEAR photos, get clicking and send your favourite photo to me for that pet portrait painting. You will be delighted with the result.

Pet dogs, cats, animals or any child or adult can be painted into the scene, even if they were not in that particular photo. Many things are possible. If you have a special request, just ask. If it is possible it can be done.

I also have many requests for pet portraits as Christmas gifts. If this is the case, please do get your pet portraits orders in well before December. I would hate to have to turn anybody down because it was too late.  Remember, you only have to pay 20% deposit up-front and I can always hold onto the painting if you do not want it to arrive before a certain date. The important thing is to get that important Christmas order in for your Pet Portraits so you are at the front of the queue.

The majority of my commissions for pet portraits come through the mail and from many parts of the world - the USA, Canada, Australia, Continental Europe, Eire, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and my own country, England.

I need at least one CLEAR photograph of the subject you wish me to paint. The clarity of the photo is crucial to the quality of the finished portrait. A 6"x4" photo is quite large enough, so long as the subject is just about filling the frame and is clear and in focus. I need to see the small details of the subject so that the original and unique character of your pet, person or place is retained in the finished portrait.

Although I have painted for as long as I can remember, I obtained a BA (Honours) Degree in Fine Art from The Lanchester Polytechnic (Coventry University) in 1982, and have been working as a professional artist for many years now, painting pet portraits of dogs, cats and all animals.

I care very much about animal welfare, the natural environment and the sympathetic care of my Country's heritage. I love England and feel very passionately about the urgent need to care for the English countryside with it's various wildlife and wildlife habitats. It is only by caring for their habitats that some of our most pressured wild animals, birds and plants have any chance of flourishing. We should all do our best to alleviate some of the harm man has done and try to prevent further harm.

I also have the utmost admiration for the dog, cat and animal care organisations throughout the world. They often dedicate their whole lives to the welfare of unfortunate animals that desperately need a second chance to find happiness.

My Home Life

My home is a small house on the outskirts of Coventry, in the Midlands of England, where I live with my brother Reg, five rescue dogs (Percy, Mitzi, Quake, Tremor and Tarn), two cats (Rosa and Tansy) and little Titch, our female Teddy Bear Hamster and, as you can see from the website, I also have a soft spot for ducks.

I had a wild mallard duck for many years after she had been swept away from her mother in a violent storm. My son, who was about 13 years old, told the River Warden about the tiny duckling's plight, and was told him that he could have the duckling if he could get her as she would die without her mother. So, of course, what did my son do? Yes, he jumped into the river fully clothed and plucked her out of the water.

During the years we had "Me-Too", she went almost everywhere with us. I am afraid she had no idea she was a duck and cuddled up with the dogs to sleep.

My son Paul is now grown and he and his wife Jayne, live just around the corner from me, with my two young grandsons, Daniel and Jacob and their rescue dog, Grip, a rough-haired Jack Russell terrier. They recently lost another beloved dog Charlie.  Charlie, unfortunately, escaped from their garden and, with no road sense she was knocked down and fatally injured by a hit and run driver.

Within a few yards of my home are woods and fields and the dogs have great fun romping through the trees and meadows. I have to take the same route each time because 2 of my dogs are blind and they have more confidence if they know where we are going.

One blind dog, Mitzi, is 15 and also deaf and very frail but insists on going for her walks. If she gets too tired, I carry her. She has recently had a stroke which put her out of action for about 10 days but is now back to her normal bossy self again, thank goodness.

The other blind dog is Tremor. She, however, went blind very young and still has lots of energy. You could not tell she is blind from the way she plays with the other dogs and goes swimming in the pond. She does need a careful eye kept on her though, and a warning "MIND!" shouted if she is racing towards a tree, or a quick call if she has lost her bearings. When I have to shout "MIND!" to her, she skids to a stop immediately and then feels her way slowly until I shout the all clear signal which is "OK THEN!" Then she is off on her mad chases again.

Percy, our 16 years old mongrel, who looks like a miniature German Shepherd, is also completely deaf and appears to be developing cataracts.  However, he still enjoys his walk.  But his time with us is very limited now.  His vet has just diagnosed that he has cancer of the muzzle. However I know this mild autumn of his life will not last forever and I must be constantly on the lookout for the signs of winter storms coming over his horizon. I would not want him to weather them when he does not have to.

"There is no death. the stars go down to rise upon some other shore. And bright in Heaven's jeweled crown, they shine for ever more."
 - John Luckey Mccreery -

Wild flowers, such as foxgloves, bluebells, primroses, meadow cowslips, ladies smock, buttercups, and violets, grow in abundance and the area is home to foxes, voles, field mice, moles, muntjac deer, owls, lapwings, pheasants, woodcocks, kestrels, peregrine falcons, bluetits, longtailed tits, bullfinches. There is also a wonderful variety of butterflies, assorted dragonflies and so many other birds and animals I couldn't possibly mention them all.

The nearby pond is also home to more animals, mallard ducks, moorhens, frogs, toads, great crested newts, smooth newts, stickle-back fish, minnows, water boatmen and a myriad assorted other water creatures and insects such as dragonflies and beetles, some of which are quite rare.

One of my greatest pleasures is wandering through the meadows with my dogs, sketchbook in hand, watching the English spring scenery pass on into summer and autumn and then watch the autumn leaves fall before the first snows of winter. Nobody has to be rich to enjoy these pleasures but how poor are those who can find no pleasure in them.

Please do not hesitate to contact me for further details or samples of my work, or if you have any query or just want a chat.

If  you want a really unusual and special gift for a pet or animal lover for Christmas, Birthdays, Thanksgiving, Easter, Anniversaries, Retirements, Presentations or any other celebration, a portrait of a beloved pet is always a unique and very welcome gift. Whether it is a dog painting, cat painting, horse painting, wild animal painting, bird painting, child or adult human painting or a painting of someone's home and garden, it will bring delight and surprise to the recipient.

A place in thy memory, dearest,
Is all that I claim;
To pause and look back when thou hearest
The sound of my name.
Gerald Griffin (1803-1840): A Place in thy Memory.

Because a portrait of a beloved pet makes a very special gift.
